Vinh Phuc province is located in the key economic region of the Northern Delta, the Red River Delta, and Hanoi Capital Region. It is close to Noi Bai International Airport and serves as a bridge between the Northwestern provinces and Hanoi, as well as the Red River Delta, connected by National Highway 5 to Hai Phong port and National Highway 18 to the deep-water port of Cai Lan. Vinh Phuc plays an important role in the key economic region of the Northern Delta, especially in relation to the capital city of Hanoi.

Vinh Phuc province has a total natural area of 1,236 km2 and an average population of 1,191,782 people (2021). It is divided into 9 administrative units, including Vinh Yen city, Phuc Yen city, and the districts of Lap Thach, Song Lo, Tam Duong, Vinh Tuong, Yen Lac, Tam Dao, and Binh Xuyen. It consists of 136 communes, wards, and towns.

Vinh Phuc is located in the transitional region between the midland hills and the Red River Delta, with its Northern part leaning against the Tam Dao mountain range and its Western and Southern parts surrounded by the Red River and the Lo River. Vinh Phuc has diverse terrain, gradually descending from the Northwest to the Southwest, creating distinct ecological regions: plains, midlands, and mountains.

Vinh Phuc has a dense network of rivers, streams, and lakes, with the hydrological regime of the province depending on the hydrological regime of the two major rivers flowing through it, namely the Red River and the Lo River.

Vinh Phuc is located in the tropical monsoon belt, with hot and humid weather and abundant rainfall, and cold winters. The average annual temperature is around 23.2-25oC (while the Tam Dao mountainous area with an altitude of over 900m has an average temperature of 18.3oC), peaking in June, July, and August, and lowest in December, January, and February. The annual rainfall ranges from 1,500 to 1,700 mm, with the majority of rainfall concentrated in June, July, and August, accounting for over 60% of the total annual rainfall. The total number of sunshine hours per year is from 1,500 to 1,600 hours (Tam Dao: 1,000 to 1,200 hours). Summer has a high number of sunshine hours, while the last months of winter have a low number of sunshine hours.
