Workshop on green cities – A sustainable urban future in Southeast Asia

The representative of Asian Development Bank, Mrs. Amy Leung, Director of Urban Development Department in the Southeast Asia; Mrs. Sonia Chand Sandhu, Head of Representative Team. Attending the workshop included: Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc, Member of Standing Party Committee, Secretary of Vinh Yen City Committee of the Party; representative of the Department and agencies in the province; provincial People’s Council, Vinh Yen City and Phuc Yen Town People’s, Committee, People’s, Committee of Binh Xuyen District and leaders came from Ha Giang province, and the city of Hue.

Opening speaking at the workshop, Mr. Phung Quang Hung Chairman of Vinh Phuc People’s Committee affirmed that the Points of view of striving to become a green city and sustainable development that has helped the Vinh Yen city become the highlight on socio economic development; it was recognized as a grade III. However, in the process of economic development, urbanization was speeding rapidly leads to the exploitation and unreasonable natural resources using, the urbanization environment tend to be pollution, a congestion of the traffic appeared …. The Asian Development Bank appointed  experts in the field of urban development; environment and climate change, social development, urban planning, finance and investment had supported the province to implement  the action plan to build the Vinh Yen city in particular contribute to building Vinh Phuc become green city in the future.

Mr. Chairman of PPC required the representative focusing on discussing on the key contents: development of Vinh Yen city become a sustainable on society to improve the quality of life, a city friendly environment, modern urban services, civilization and development of the city in the direction of harmony with infrastructure completed investments, economic development, attractive and dynamic business environment, stable jobs….

During the day, the participants has been the experts on environment of Asian Development Bank introduces and analyzes the concept and the principles of green city; the action program structure of green city; the comments focused discussions to clarity the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges for Vinh Yen city at the present and in the future, subject to the selection of investment projects, it is necessary to invest soon, the form and capital investment are suitable to build Vinh Yen city in order to reach goals of green city as soon as possible.
